Breakthrough on the innovation in the hanging, installing of mining grid

Recently, 4526 longwall of one coal mine in Inner Mongolia implemented with success the new technology of using winches to hang the mining grid which not only shortened the installation, but also saved the labour, with safer operation.

Since the application of mining grid fro the longwall recovery, the final cut-out time has been greatly shortened. In the past, they used bolts to fix the steel cable and hanwinch to hang the grid. They needed to roll the thin steel cable to the handwinch and passed the grid roll in two opposite ways. During this procedure, the longwall crew had to stand the ladder by the side of rib when the filpper was closed which was risky and cost time and labour.

In order to solve this problem, the mine crew changed the way of hanging grid to use winch to hang the grid which means preinstall a winch with 20t capacity at the longwall machine tail, the steel cable connecting to the winch was put in advance in the longwall. After the grid was transported to the longwall. Longwall crew fix the steel cable with grid inside the conveyor gateway. The grid was tensioned and hung along with the steel cable which was tensioned first. The way of hanging the grid was safe, low intensity in labour and efficient. Longwall crew could complete the rolling of steel cable and fasten the safety lock in the gateway. The flipper was open which guaranteed the safety of crew and avoided the risk for the crew who worked close to the gap between the rib and shield. There was no labour needed in the whole grid hanging and saved at least 40 laours. Compared the traditional method, the new hanging method saved almost 1 hour.

The hanging method was used with excellent effect in the final cut-out of the 4526 longwall. The coal mine will make further conclusion on ecperience to realize the lean management on hanging the grid.
